Extravagant Multibreak Shells

Large Multibreak shells 7″ manufactured by our Pyrotechnics Engineers.  These were let off to salute the exit of St. Peter’s Statue in procession on the day of his feast in Birżebbuġa.

Directly from the Firing Fields

This year we made an effort to bring to your screens live events from where our fireworks are let off.  People are usually accustomed to follow fireworks either from the Parish Square or from their rooftops.  They barely know how difficult it could be to let off fireworks during daylight let alone at night.  We think that this should be of great interest to you.

To pay homage to the sacred and devoted effigy of St. Peter Apostle, Patron Saint of Birżebbuġa, the 22nd February Pyrotechnics Society let off a salute consisting of 21 large bombs, a battery and a set of very large multibreak shells.  The following clips have been captured by our members from Birżebbuġa Square during the procession.

Sunday 3rd August 2014 Grand Pyrotechnic Show as St. Peter’s Statue was carried in Procession

On Sunday 3rd August 2014 at about 7pm the statue of St. Peter Apostle made its way out of the Parish church of Birżebbuġa.  A huge crowd awaits this moment year after year.  It is the most important even of all the feast week.  The statue of Saint Peter is perhaps the most precious thing we have in our town.  It embodies our pride, our identity our devotion to the first vicar of Christ.  The 22nd February Pyrotechnics Society let off a salute consisting of 21 large bombs, a battery and a set of very large multibreak shells.

The following extraordinary footages have been taken from the same fields were all the fireworks were let off.

Ground Fireworks Show 2014 – Saturday 2nd August 2014

The popular Ground Fireworks show put up by our Society has once again attracted hundreds of people from all over the island.  Birżebbuġa’s main square was packed with people.  The show began at 11pm.  There were about 18 catherine wheels of different sizes and mechanism.  The variety of colourful fountains and sparklers make this show a unique one and very popular with many pyrotechnics lovers.  Our show is not only renowned for engineering but also for the quality and chemistry of specific sparklers and fountains.

Friday Night 1st August 2014 Pyrotechnic Show

SURPRISE !!!!!! Ground-Fireworks Show 2nd August 2014, 11pm – Birżebbuġa Square

And yet we have many other more things to tell you about this Saturday’s Ground Fireworks Show put up by the 22nd February Pyrotechnincs Team.  The show will also include some surprises … which I can’t reveal yet … hehe 🙂

THIS SATURDAY YOU HAVE TO COME AND SEE THE SHOW … DON’T MISS IT.

YOU’LL SEE EXTRAORDINARY CATHERINE WHEELS !!!

The Traditional Maltese Catherine Wheel known as IX-XEMX (The Sun). Enhanced by our Pyrotechnics Society for the Show 2nd August 2014

This year the 22nd February Pyrotechnics Society of Birżebbuġa has worked upon and enhanced the Maltese traditional Catherine Wheel popularly known as ‘Ix-Xemx’ (The Sun).  This consists of 2 wheels, one behind the other which spin in opposite directions.  With different colourful fountains attached, it creates the effect of a burning Sun.  This year as you can see, our engineers decided to enhance the wheel by enlarging it and by adding more fountains to it.  Luke Portelli, pyrotechnician stated that this year the wheel will change colours 15 different times, each fountain with a particular colour, many of which are no longer produced in Malta.  The Society would also like to thank Mr. Thaddeus Agius for working on the 2 large circular frames.

A Great ‘Ground-Fireworks’ Show on Saturday 2nd August, 11pm, Birżebbuġa Square – DON’T MISS IT !!!

Fireworks enthusiasts have only one appointment this Saturday – Birżebbuġa Parish Square 11pm.  A great Ground-Fireworks show is in the pipeline !!! Surely not to be missed.  It is advisable to come to Birżebbuġa a few hours before as parking is an issue.  Many people flock to Birżebbuġa in huge numbers, especially during the festa week.  We certainly have no problem with poor attendances.  Birżebbuġa has always been synonymous with huge crowds.  For those arriving earlier, I would suggest them to stay in the Parish square where there will be the Birżebbuġa Band performing music pieces and songs with ‘Federica Falzon’.  There will also be the aerial pyrotechnic show going on.  Come and Enjoy!!! See you this Saturday in Birżebbuġa.

What are our Pyrotechnicians doing right now?

But what are our pyrotechnicians doing right now?

The next aerial show will take place this Friday, but in the meantime, members of our team are preparing for next Saturday’s Ground fireworks show which will be held in Birżebbuġa’s Parish Square at around 11pm.  If I were you I would not miss this unique opportunity.  It will definitely be one of the best shows ever since its inception a few years ago.  There will be a variety of catherine wheels working in different mechanisms.  Not to mention the quality of fountains and sparklers to be used, which are of the highest quality.

A new Pop Song for our Society: ‘Naqtgħu u Niwweldjaw’

It has become customary now that for each year, members of our Pyrotechnics Society commission a pop song to play and sing during the week of Saint Peter’s feast.  This year’s song is entitled ‘Naqtgħu u Niwweldjaw’ which in English is translated as Cutting and Welding.  The reference is obviously being made to the process of cutting and joining metal channels together to produce frames for ground fireworks.

Intensive work during the last days: Transportation of Tubes

On Saturday 26th July and Sunday 27th July members and helpers of our fireworks Society had the daunting and laborious task of carrying the tubes into the fields where fireworks are let off.  Our sincere thanks go to those who gave a helping hand and those who dug up the soil to fit the tubes tightly together on the ground.

Preparations which take a Whole Year

Fireworks are not produced in a few days.  They take a lot of time and patience to build up.  Brisk work may expose manufacturers to unnecessary risks.  The following pictures show snapshots of the delicate work carried out during the whole year by our fireworks engineers and helpers.

A view of yesterday’s mid-day mortars from Birżebbuġa’s church’s belfry

The BBG.com is currently publishing day to day news from the feast of St. Peter in Birżebbuġa.  Yesterday the BBG.com filmed the mid-day fireworks from the church belfry.  The mortars looked pretty good from that angle.  At noon the church bells were rang to announce the beginning of the feast in honour of St. Peter.  It is customary for the 22nd February Fireworks Society that on the first day of this feast week, they let off fireworks at 8am and at noon.

Amazing Aerial fireworks yesterday by the 22nd February Pyrotechnics Society of Birżebbuġa

Yesterday, the 22nd February Pyrotechnics Society of Birżebbuġa left every single person in the parish square astounded by the high level standard of multibreak shells that were let off as the statue of Saint Peter Apostle was carried out shoulder high on the church parvis at around 7pm.  We have obtained some videos from a friend of our Society.  The clips are not very clear but it is easy to recognize the high level of manufacture of these mortars.  A very brief battery was also let off as the much devoted statue of St Peter Apostle was taken out of Birżebbuġa Parish Church.

Today at 7pm Aerial Fireworks as St. Peter’s Statue is taken out of Birzebbuġa Church

We are just a few minutes away from celebrating the main event of the day.  In fact this evening at about 7pm the Titular statue of St. Peter Apostle will be taken out of the Parish Church of Birzebbuġa on the parvis.  This is the most exciting part of the day.  It is with this event that the feast of Saint Peter is ‘declared’ officially open!  The 22nd February Pyrotechnics Society will let off salute consisting of 21 large bombs, a battery and a set of Maltese traditional multibreak shells.  All the work has been manufactured by our fireworks engineers.  We will adjourn you with new clips of this event tomorrow.  In the meantime may I augur all Birzebbuġa residents a happy feast.  May all we give honour to Saint Peter Apostle.  VIVA SAN PIETRU

Monday 28th July 2014 Mid-day Salute

Monday 28th July 2014 Morning Salute

This is a clip of the fireworks that were let off this morning by the 22nd February Society of Birzebbuġa to mark the opening of the Parish feast in honour of our Patron Saint St. Peter Apostle.  Later on I will also show you the mid-day salute as presented by our Pyrotechnics Team.  Enjoy!

Firing of Salute at Noon in Birżebbuġa

A few minutes more and as the Birżebbuġa Parish Church belfry clock strikes noon, the 22nd February Pyrotechnics Society of Birżebbuġa will let off a series of large cherry-bombs together with a few multi-break shells.  All the work has been manufactured by our brave engineers from Birżebbuġa.  Today’s fireworks mark the unique occasion when this evening, at around 7pm, the statue of Saint Peter Apostle is taken out of its niche and is carried out shoulder high on the Church Parvis for the local devotees to see and pray.  At noon, the church bell ringers will also ring all the bells in the belfry including the biggest one in series, reserved only for great occasions such as the one of today.

Firing of Salute this morning at 8am in Birżebbuġa

Good morning to all and our best wishes to all Birżebbuġa locals who will indulge themselves in the celebrations of the feast of Saint Peter Apostle in our village.

The 22nd February Pyrotechnics Society will start off this week of celebrations this very morning at 8:00am by firing a salute, consisting of a set of large ‘cherry bombs’.  By doing so our Pyrotechnics Society will be announcing the opening of the feast of our Apostle Saint Peter, much for the amusement of all dovotees and parishioners.  VIVA SAN PIETRU.

Not just Engineering BUT ALSO GOOD CHEMISTRY !!!

For the untrained eye, quality of fireworks may pass unnoticed but for those who have been working in this area may easily recognise the difference between a show and another.  One thing which characterizes our show apart from high standard engineering of metal frames and mechanical work is the quality of sparklers and fountains that continuously change colour, emit colourful sparks, brilliant flashes and strobe-light effects.  Our show does not limit itself to engineering but offers the general public a spectacle of high standard mixtures and chemical compositions which require in-depth knowledge and skillful hands.  Some of these require particular attention to produce as they might be dangerous.  We augur our pyrotechnics team the best of luck for the Ground Fireworks exhibition on the eve of St. Peter feast next Saturday 2nd August 2014 11pm in Birżebbuġa Parish Square.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Our Pyrotechnics Engineers ready for Show !!!

THE HOUR HAS COME

Dear friends, followers and admirers of our glorious Pyrotechnics Society

I am pleased to announce you that our pyrotechnics engineers are ready for show !!!  Everything is ready for a great week ahead full of high-class pyrotechnics.  Birżebbuġa, will be celebrating the feast of our patron saint: St Peter Apostle in Chains.

Today all mortars were placed on show to allow the same engineers to photograph their work before the mortars are lit off during the week.  There are over 100 mortars built by our own engineers. The show is mainly divided in two: aerial fireworks and ground fireworks.  The latter will take place on Saturday 2nd August at around 11pm.  Aerial exhibitions will take place at different times during the week.  However the main aerial shows will take place tomorrow Monday 28th 7pm; Friday 1st August at 9pm; Saturday 2nd August 9:45pm and Sunday 3rd August at 7:15pm.

We sincerely augur the best of luck to our pyrotechnics engineers and may they enjoy their work safely under the protection of  Saint Peter Apostle as freed by the Angel of God.
